Urban Governance

The Department of Urban Governance was founded in July 2008. It was honored as one of the Beijing First-Class Undergraduate Majors. It is the chief editor ofUrban Operation Management andUrban Community Governance, the national "14th Five-Year Plan" teaching materials for Urban Governance. In 2021 "Soft Science Professional Ranking of Chinese Universities", this major was awarded A-level, ranking among the top 5 in the country.

The Department of Urban Governance currently has 3 professors, 5 associate professors and3 lecturers, all of whom have doctorate degrees from well-known universities at home and abroad. The faculty has presided over more than 20 vertical projectssupported by the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Foundation, the Humanities and Social Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education, the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, and the Beijing Social Science Foundation and etc., and over 100 horizontal projects entrusted by national ministries and commissions, local governments at all levels, and various enterprises and public institutions. In particular, the 14th Five-Year Plan project of Liaoning Province was highly recognized by Liaoning Province. Thefaculty members have published more than 300 academic papers in high-level journals at home and abroad. At the same time,thefaculty members have actively devoted itself to servingnew development, formed a series of representative decision-making consulting results and been approved by leaders at all levels many times. All faculty members of the department hold important positions in national academic organizations such asChinese Academy of Management,The Regional Science Association of China,Urban Planning Society of China,China Society of Urban Economy, etc.

Guided by the concepts of "international vision, strategic height, innovation coordination, public value and financial characteristics", the Department of Urban Governance has established a completeeducation system for undergraduate, master and doctoral students. The Department is committed to creating a distinctive professionaleducation mode: taking“administrative thinking, financial consciousness, science and technology skills” as the goal of training, constructing a theoretical and skill system for“analyzing and studying cities, planning and designing cities, managing and operating cities”, and implementing a teaching process that combines“theoretical learning, practical training and alumni sharing”.

The Department has trained a number of high-quality, versatile and applied talents who are engaged in urban planning and management, development operation and policy consultation sphere. Graduates of this major are widely employed in government agencies and public institutions related to urban planning and management, urban development and operationin enterprises and consulting institutions. In recent years, more than 50% of graduates have gone to well-known universities at home and abroad for postgraduate study, such asTsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Renmin University of China, University of Hong Kong, Cornell University, Columbia University andetc.
